Sofia Daily City Tours – Discover the Stunning St Paraskeva Church
Sofia daily city tours offer you a visit to one of the most beautiful and unique churches in the city – St Paraskeva Church.
This church is the third-largest in Sofia and one of the most eye-catching landmarks in the capital.
Its design, size, and spiritual atmosphere make it an important stop on your daily tours Sofia.

A Long Journey from Idea to Reality
The idea of building St Paraskeva Church began in 1910. Architect Anton Tornyov won a competition to design the building.
However, the Balkan Wars and World War I delayed the project. Some confusion among the competition jury caused more postponements.
In 1922, a new competition was held. Tornyov won again. The church was finally completed and opened in 1930.
The location of the church was chosen carefully. Before this, St Petka of the Saddlers Church served the area but was too small.
It also stood far from the local people. As Sofia grew, a larger church was clearly needed.
The church board bought a 3,000 square meter plot, where St Paraskeva stands today.
You can learn more about the older church as well on our private guided Ephesus tours.
The Faith and Life of Saint Paraskeva
Sofia daily city tours also introduce visitors to the story of Saint Paraskeva, a brave and kind Christian woman.
She lived in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, in what is today Asia Minor. She was raised with strong Christian values.
When her parents died, she used her inheritance to help the poor and the sick.
At just 16 years old, she refused to worship the Roman Emperor. She chose to stay loyal to her Christian faith.
For this, she was sentenced to death. Christians buried her in her home. Many miracles were later reported at her grave.
Her courage and devotion still inspire people today. Customized tour Istanbul also shares stories of Christian martyrs and sacred sites.
What to Expect When You Visit
St Paraskeva Church has a very unusual design. From the outside, it looks more like a round temple than a typical church.
Inside, the church is just as impressive. High ceilings, natural light, and open space give it a peaceful feeling.
The large dome above the central hall adds beauty and grandeur. Visitors often feel calm and amazed when they step inside.
If you’re joining Sofia daily city tours, this is a place that combines architecture, history, and spirituality in one stop.
